My story
I’m Pat Sayre, an artist here in Anacortes, Washington, and after more than 50 years of painting, creating, cooking, and raising a family, I still feel very lucky to spend my days doing the things I love most.
Creativity has always been a big part of my life. Painting is where I return again and again, but it has never been my only creative outlet. I’m also a published author of Turkey the Bird for all Seasons: a cookbook about turkey, and over the years I even had the fun of sharing my love of cooking on television. I’ve always enjoyed creating dishes, gathering people around the table, and making a home feel warm, colorful, and full of life.
That same feeling finds its way into my paintings.
I work mostly in acrylic and mixed media, often adding rice paper for the texture and little surprises it brings to a piece. Much of my inspiration comes from the Pacific Northwest and the beautiful place I get to call home. The water, gardens, forests, flowers, changing skies, hummingbirds, butterflies, and quiet island views all seem to find their way onto my canvases.
My studio looks out over my garden through big open windows, so even when I’m indoors painting, I still feel surrounded by nature. I can watch the flowers moving in the breeze, hummingbirds darting through the garden, and the light changing throughout the day. Many of those little moments have become paintings.
But after all these years, one of the things that means the most to me is knowing that my artwork gets to become part of someone else’s home.
I love the thought of a painting hanging in a room where families gather, meals are shared, children and grandchildren visit, and memories are made. To me, that is a very special kind of legacy: creating something with my own hands that may continue bringing color and joy to another family for years to come.
Thank you for visiting my gallery and spending a little time with my work. I’m so glad you’re here.
What people say about my art…
“These aren’t your grandmother’s flower paintings. Pat’s florals are bold, textured, expressive, and full of unexpected color, transforming familiar blooms into something modern, joyful, and completely their own.
I love the oversized floral painting of Pat’s that greets us in our foyer. It feels beautiful and contemporary, adds so much personality to the space, and brings a smile to my face every time I walk through the door. It has the same effect on our guests, making the entrance to our home feel instantly brighter, happier, and more welcoming.”
—Angeline Myers“This artist brings a fresh and vibrant energy to paintings of local landscapes and flowers with a distinctive touch. Her use of color is both bold and harmonious, capturing the shifting light and natural rhythms of the region. The brushwork and expressive techniques give each work a sense of joy and immediacy, transforming everyday subjects into luminous experiences. Visit her studio when you can!”
